Chromatography, Gel Definition: Chromatography on non-ionic gels without regard to the mechanism of solute discrimination.
gel filtration chromatography Definition: column chromatography that separates compounds on the basis of molecular size by using a molecular sieve, usually a zeolite; molecules larger than the largest pore size are excluded from the column.
Gel Filtration Chromatography Definition: Gel permeation or sieve chromatography that is performed on porous gels that separate solutes on the basis of size. Smaller solutes are included within the particles of the gel matrix more frequently than larger solutes, thus affecting elution rates.
Filtration Definition: A process of separating particulate matter from a fluid, such as air or a liquid, by passing the fluid carrier through a medium that will not pass the particulates. (McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, 4th ed)
Filtration Definition: The process of passing a liquid or gas through a filter.
Glomerular Filtration Rate Definition: The volume of water filtered out of plasma through glomerular capillary walls into Bowman's capsules per unit of time. It is considered to be equivalent to INULIN clearance.
glomerular filtration rate Definition: rate at which plasma is filtered by the glomerular filtration membrane into Bowman's space; determined by the permeabiliy of the membrane, hydrostatic pressure in the glomerular capillaries and Bowman's space, and the colloid osmotic pressure exerted by the proteins of the capillary plasma.
Filtration Systems, Semen Definition: Systems incorporating a filter that separates motile sperm from nonmotile sperm and seminal fluid for use in intrauterine insemination and other forms of assisted reproduction techniques. In some systems, the semen is filtered through a Sephadex filter, a mechanical matrix filter.
Glaucoma Drainage Implants Definition: Devices, usually incorporating unidirectional valves, which are surgically inserted in the sclera to maintain normal intraocular pressure.
glomerular filtration Definition: movement and filtering of the plasma-like glomerular filtrate through the glomerular capillaries into the renal tubules.

filtration Definition: Action par laquelle on fait passer un liquide à travers un corps destiné à l’éclaircir, à l’épurer.
filtration Definition: Passage d’un liquide à travers un corps perméable.
